The Author to Her Book by Anne Bradstreet Essay -- The Author to Her B

â€Å"The Author to Her Book† by Anne Bradstreet In â€Å"The Author to Her Book,† Bradstreet is inundated in indecision and internal struggles over the virtues and shortfalls of her abilities and the book that she produced. As human beings we associate and sympathize with each other through similar experiences. It is difficult to sympathize with someone when you don’t know where they are coming from and don’t know what they are dealing with. Similar experiences and common bonds are what allow us to extend our sincere appreciation and understanding for another human being’s situation. In this poem an elaborate struggle between pride and shame manifests itself through an extended metaphor in which she equates her book to her own child. "The Author to Her Book" expresses some of the emotions Bradstreet felt when her most intimate thoughts were made know to the world with the publishing of her book. In addition she also relates some of the story as to how her work came to be published. The average person could not relate to the distress Bradstreet feels in this situation. The collection of poetry that she had written expressed her feelings in a way that most women during that time didn’t have the skill to do. Many people would wonder why Bradstreet the publishing of her work would be so distressful when they had brought Bradstreet much personal fame and brought many people enjoyable reading. Therefore, she could not simply write a clear-cut poem to tell how she feels about her stolen thoughts. Only another writer would be able sympathize with Bradstreet in this matter if she didn’t draw some basis for comparison. In order for her readers to be able to feel her pain and joy she had to use a situation in which her readers could comprehend the many emotions she experienced. Many of the women who read her poetry were either already mothers or would one day be mothers. This common bond opened a door for understanding. By comparing her book to a child, she is able to gain the compassion of her readers and help them appreciate the emotions she is feeling. In line one she states how she feels about her creation, which she calls an "ill-formed offspring" (line 1) and she gives the book human characteristics throughout the poem to enhance the effect of the conceit. She constantly speaks directly to her work as if it were her own child. Then in line 23 Bradstreet calls hers... ...nyone to read. But was with Bradstreet I stood behind my work even though it may not have been perfect and I think every writer could relate to here situation. Most people could not so the metaphor she used out in perspective for those who are not writers. In a small sense this poem lets the reader gaze into Bradstreet’s nature and our own. This poem along with all the other she wrote was a way for her to express her emotions into words, in this case about something very specific. As a columnist I can appreciate what she is doing and I understand the feeling she was trying to convey about the judgment she was sure to receive from the publishing of here work. Through her use of this extended metaphor, Bradstreet weaves a brilliantly intricate web of parallels: Parent and author, child and book, creator to creation. These parallels allow the reader to emotionally relate and sympathize with Bradstreet. She succeeds in conveys here feeling and giving the reader a means of association with what she is feeling. She used the pain and pleasure of creating and nurturing human life to show people who were not writer the pains and the pleasures of have your work exposed to the world.

Differences in Socioeconomic Status

Three social factors that most impact the scenario are social stratification, socioeconomic status, and class differences. Social stratification ranks individuals and families on the basis of their income, education, occupation, wealth, and power in society. This social stratification can be seem in the eighth grade boys that showed up at the Valentine’s Day dance with the rented tuxes that their parents had agreed to and paid for. These parents are mentioned to be among the more affluent in the community. Socioeconomic status is determined by a family’s income and wealth. This is demonstrated in the students that did not have the money to rent the tuxedos and the rumored limo. These students being from a different socioeconomic background and could not afford the expensive attire. Class differences are demonstrated because of some students wanting to boycott the dance because they were told only the nerds and the geeks would show up in anything less of a tux or formal dress. Their parents do not have extra money to spend on such elaborate things. The other students express behaviors and dress standards far from what the school has seen before. A variable solution to the Differences in Socioeconomic Status scenario would be for the school administration to intervene the situation. They could decide to make it mandatory that only a certain type of dress will be considered acceptable for the Valentine’s Day dance. They could change it to where all students would be able to afford the required attire. This way all students would feel equal. Also the kids that wanted to rent the limo would probably change their mind because of it not being such a formal event. It would seem sort of silly to rent a limo for a casual Valentine’s Day dance. This issue of what attire should be addressed in a school assembly to let all students know of the dress code for the dance. This way it will not be such an issue in the years to come afterwards. Students will already know what to expect and be prepared for it.

Career Episode 3. Introduction. This Career Episode Is

Career Episode 3 Introduction This career episode is about the project that I created as part of my final examination for my AC/DC Motors subject during my second year as an Electrical Engineering student at Mindanao University of Science and Technology. As part of my final examination, I was given a task to rewind a single-phase AC motor and present it to my instructor, Mr. Abella who is one of the head in the Electrical Technology department. Background During the duration of my AC/DC Motors subject in my second year, the fundamentals of electric motors were discussed to us such as the different parts of the DC and AC motors, their uses and their functions. Topics like why do we use electric motors and what are the appropriate motors†¦show more content†¦After removing each part, I write and document it in a notebook so I have a guide when I assembled it again. Little parts of the motor such as screws and washers are easily lost therefore counting, documenting and placing it in a safe storage is very important. Lost parts such as screws in the casing or yoke can make the motor unstable and wobbly when it will be energized. CE 3.4 After removing the casing, the screws and the washers, I documented and wrote the present configuration of what is inside the motor such as the number of poles, the number of brushes, the configuration of the armature, rotor and the windings. The next thing that I did was to observe the windings in the armature slot. I pulled the windings going towards me so that it will protrude a little bit and so that cutting will be easy. After that, I cut the coils of the windings. These windings are magnetic wires. CE 3.5 It was taught to us during the theory discussion of the subject that there are two kinds of winding, the lap and the wave winding. After cutting the windings and observing it, I concluded that the motor’s configuration is a lap winding because the end of one winding is connected to the armature slot, the other winding’s end is also connected to it. Both windings are under the same pole. CE 3.6 There are also two types of lap winding. The simplex and the duplex. The simplexShow MoreRelatedBecks Depression Case Study1042 Words   |  5 Pages 1. Essay about The Once and Future King - 1411 Words

The Once and Future King, or King Arthur, is a legend that is, despite its age, known by all. Everyone has heard of King Arthur and his loyal knights that make up the Round Table, but the rest of the famous legend is less known. If asked about Arthur’s parentage or birthplace, most people would not know. How many people can name off Arthur’s knights? Everyone knows Arthur’s name, but the details are less defined. Arthurian legend has many parts, the first being how Arthur came into being, then the most well-known part of the legend, but there is also his famous knights, the possibility of a historical Arthur, and how the legend has evolved over the ages. One thing that is unique about the Arthurian legend is that it has a story to set†¦show more content†¦The most widely accepted myth says that Arthur wins acknowledgement as king by pulling a sword from a stone, after which Merlin reveals Arthur’s true parentage. Despite his young age, Arthur prov es to be an able warrior and a noble king and manages to push the Saxon invaders out of Britain. Arthur possessed the sword Excalibur, which was given to him by the inscrutable Lady of the Lake. Arthur surrounded himself with loyal followers that became known as the Knights of the Round Table. Like every good legend, Arthur had a nemesis, his sister Morgan le Fay. Morgan le Fay is usually an evil sorceress who spends her time attempting to steal Arthur’s throne for her and her lover. Mordred, or Modred, is another enemy of Arthur’s. Mordred is either Arthur’s son or nephew by his sister Morgawse. Mordred seizes Arthur’s throne whilst he is away and in ultimately slain by Arthur, but not before fatally wounding the king. Arthur is then said to have retreated to Avalon, where he waits to once again take his place as king, earning him the title the Once and Future King. Arthur’s knights were his most trusted friends and family, but ironically, he is b etrayed by the best of them. The most reputed of Arthur’s knights are Sir Lancelot and Sir Tristram. Poverty Is The State Of Not For Poor, Single Parent...

Poverty is the state of not having enough money or resources to maintain basic necessities (food, housing, and clothing) to survive. The government programs that are designed to alleviate poverty and help the poor are called â€Å"public welfare† or antipoverty programs. There is not just one public welfare program that exists, there are many. Each system is designed to benefit low-income groups and have their own targeted populace, characteristic, and/or need that it addresses. The most important programs are those that provide income support to poor, single-parent households and the disabled.4 On August 14, 1935, to alleviate poverty produced by the Great Depression, president Franklin D. Roosevelt signed into law, the Social Security Act†¦show more content†¦Several people felt as though receivers were abusing the program by staying unmarried and unemployed to remain eligible for the program and some were having more children to become qualified for a greater amou nt of benefits.6 Others felt as though the AFDC program had made welfare a way of life rather than a short-term assistance mechanism to help individuals get back on their feet.7 The public at large grew frustrated with the system for the lack of evidence provided that the system actually achieved any of its goals towards reducing poverty. Needless to say the issue of welfare reform became a recurrent topic. In 1997, the AFDC program was replaced by a more restrictive, state designed and operated, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program.4 The main differences between AFDC and TANF are the time limits in which support can be received (both food stamps and cash aid), the requirement for those who receive aid to work, immigrant eligibility, and the requirement of cooperation from female recipients in identifying the father of their children. The AFDC program did not have any limits on how long income and food stamp support could be received nor did the program require applicants to participate in work activities to remain eligible. Developmentally disabled children as well as non-citizens qualified for a wide variety of programs, and female recipients were not required to name the father of their children.4 The TANF program limits

BAS for Tax Agent Service Regulations - myassignmenthelp.com

Question: Discuss about theBAS for Tax Agent Service Regulations. Answer: Dear Penny, In this email, an attempt is made to discuss the eligibility requirement for registering as a BAS agent and whether you currently qualify for the same. The individual should registered with Tax Practitioners Board in order to become a BAS agent. It is compulsory to register with TPB for providing services like tax agent or business activity statement for reward such as fees. If an individual is not registered with the board then such an individual is not allowed to charge any compensation for providing services related to tax or business activity statement (Dam et al. 2014). In order to become a BAS agent an individual is required to have certain qualifications that are provided in Tax Agent Service Regulations 2009 (TASR). The primary qualification that an individual should have is an academic qualification in bookkeeping or a certificate IV level qualification at accounting. It is mandatory that the qualification should be obtained from the registered training centers or institution that are equivalent. In addition to this, the individual should have the qualification in BAS basic course offered by the institute. On analyzing the qualifications, it can be seen that all the qualification requirements that are needed for becoming a registered BAS agent is fulfilled (Walpole and Salter, 2014). There are two options for becoming a BAS agent and these options are based on experiences. The individual is required to have 1400 hours of working experience in the past 4 years if the individual does not have voting membership in a recognized tax agent association. If the individual is a voting member of an association of BAS agent then relevant work experience of 1000 hours in 4 years is required. In this case, she had 670 hours of work experience and she is a professional member of institute of public accountants. Based on the requirement she needs to have an experience of at least 1000 hours. Therefore, she cannot register for becoming an agent, as the requirement for experience is not satisfied. Therefore, in order to become a registered BAS agent Penny is required to get work experience of 1000 working hours. The Tax Practitioners Board provides that a BAS agent should complete a minimum of 45 hours of continuing Professional Examination. It is mandatory to have a minimum 5 hours of continuous Professional Examination in any particular year. The containing Professional Examination helps the agent to gather and maintain the required level of knowledge and skill that is necessary for providing services. The code of professional conduct provides that it is an obligation for a professional to maintain up to date skills as a tax agent (Martin and Vincent 2014). In September, George was employed in a manufacturing company for completing the activity service and managing payroll. In this case, he is not acting in the capacity of BAS agent but an employee of the company. The requirement for continuing professional education applies only to the professionals and not the employees. Therefore, he has not violated any civil provision in September. The continuing professional education is an obligation under the code of professional conduct. In this case, George has provided services as a registered BAS agent without undertaking continuing professional education. This is one of the principle code of professional conduct that has been breached by George. The code of professional conduct requires that an agent should maintain confidentiality of the information of the client. The information of the client should not be shared without the consent of the client except is required by law (Rowland 2014). The privacy act 1998 provides that information can only be shared on demand of the court, tribunal or any other legal proceedings. Therefore, George can share the information of the client if the law requires the information to be shared. The different ways in which a BAS agent can lodge business activity statement are: Business activity statement can be lodged online. Business activity statement can be lodged through phone. The business activity statement can be lodged by email. The Three organizations: Institute of certified public Accountants. Wuthering Heights, Lord Jim, The Great Gatsby, And A Passage To India

Wuthering Heights, Lord Jim, The Great Gatsby, And A Passage To India A protagonist is defined as a leading character in a written piece. The protagonist in a novel sets the story and frequently leads the plot. The protagonists can be analyzed to reveal the moral or meaning of a story. In the following essay, four main characters will be analyzed from E.M. Forester's A Passage to India, Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights, Joseph Conrad's Lord Jim, and F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby. In E.M. Forester's A Passage to India, the main character, Dr. Aziz, is a Moslem doctor living in Chandrapore. He is a widower with three children who meets Mrs. Moore, an aged English widow who has three children herself and becomes friends with her. Even though Dr. Aziz is a munificent and caring man towards his English friends, after Adela Quested charges him with assault he becomes bitter, vindictive and developed more than hard feelings towards the British. When Ms. Quested experiences a mental collapse, the British assume that her circumstance was the result of sexual molestation and falsely accuse Dr. Aziz of this crime. When Dr. Aziz is found not guilty, he builds up a relentless hatred, not only for the British, but also for his own attorney. Dr. Aziz's newfound viewpoint is an immediate response to his discrimination and in this sense is a product of English colonialism. A primary concern of A Passage to India is the change of Dr. Aziz's thoughts of the British, from a bit submissive to an aggressive viewpoint. In due course, Dr. Aziz realizes that he must judge and undertake the English on a personal and an individual basis. To carry this out, his attitude toward the English should be based on his direct experience with people, not on whether or not they are a European or an Indian. One of the major themes of E. M. Forster's novel is cultural misunderstanding. Contradictory cultural ideas and expectations dealing with hospitality, social proprieties, and the role of religion in daily life are responsible for misunderstandings between the English and the Indians. Aziz tells Fielding at the conclusion of the novel, It is useless discussing Hindus with me. Living with them teaches me no more. When I think I annoy them, I do not. When I think I don't annoy them, I do. E.M. Forster shows how repeated misunderstandings can turn into cultural stereotypes and are often used to validate the uselessness of attempts to try to bring different cultures together. The novel Lord Jim is the tale of Jim, an overly romantic seaman, who during a moment of crisis loses his courage. Lord Jim is the story of a young ship's officer who makes an incomprehensible mistake. Jim was the first mate on a pilgrim ship on its way to Mecca. After the ship collides with an unseen object, it becomes in danger of sinking. Jim abandons the ship, leaving the human cargo to fend for themselves. Jim was branded a coward and stripped of his license as a sailor, and was unable to bear the disgrace attached to his life for a brief moment of cowardice. He is dogged by the guilt of what he did and spends years drifting around the East trying to find a way to redeem himself. Eventually, he ends up in the forests of Malaysia where he becomes a god-like protector of the natives and is given the label of Lord. Even though he was given this title and he his followers consider him a success, he is not able to forget his moment of weakness. Jim's egocentricity stops him from goin g on with his life and condemns him to a life of voluntary exile, the whole time believing that he is not good enough to live in the outside world. He is willing to risk any future happiness and fortune to be able to face his demons once again without losing his nerves. Ironically, it is Jim's last heroic act that destroyed all the good that Jim had built up, essentially bringing chaos to his world. Lord Jim's tale is presented as a lesson to everyone. Just because an individual does something wrong doesn't mean that they
